This anatomical dissection is that of half of a horse hoof and partial leg split down the middle. A common practice, that began clear back in Greece in 500 BCE to study the anatomy and physiology of many kinds of animal species. Especially before practicing such acts on humans was permitted. Through doing so it led to many discoveries and has even become practice in American classrooms since the 1920's. Though this may seem gruesome to some, it is a way of giving students hands on learning in a three dimensional form.
We believe that this particular specimen is dated to the early 1900's.
